Ogden, Suzanne M.

Suzanne Marie (Moody) Ogden joined her beloved husband William in heaven on Sunday February 28th, 2016.

Suzanne was born on January 13, 1945 in Utica, NY to Stanley Willson Moody and Patricia (Kavanagh) Moody.  She was the oldest of nine children and remained “The Queen” until her passing.

She attended elementary school at Holy Ghost Academy in Tupper Lake, NY and attended High School at Tupper Lake High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated with honors in 1963.  She was married to her soul mate William S.S. Ogden on August 31, 1963.

They made their home on Long Island, NY, later moving to Billerica, MA, and then to Texas in the early 1970’s.  Suzanne received her undergraduate degree in Russian Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington, and later received a Masters of Library Science from The University of North Texas.

She was employed by Nuclear Medical Labs, PepsiCo/Frito Lay, and EDS/HP.

Suzanne was an avid reader, traveler, gardener, and knitter.  She participated in Stitches from the Heart, a charitable organization that provides blankets and knit caps for premature babies across the country.  She loved American History and toured (with siblings in tow) many of the New York State historical sites, such as Fort Ticonderoga, Fort Crown Point, Saratoga, and many more. Living in Massachusetts allowed her to visit and explore many of the other early American historical sites.

She was a Trivial Pursuit buff, and she and brother Vin were proclaimed the family champions in the mid-1980s. That title still stands.  She and Bill competed at home each evening with the Jeopardy contestants and probably should have gone on the show!

A friend to animals, Suzanne had many fur-babies – Taffy, Gus, Mickey, Rory, and Jewel – and is reunited with them all in heaven.  She also fed both birds and squirrels in her yard and even arranged for their feeding and care while on vacation.

She and Bill traveled to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Canada, and Alaska (their favorite) and loved the Holland America lines for their cruises.  But in all her travels, she loved the Adirondacks the very best, and vacationed at the Wawbeek for many summers.  She was always interested in the history of Tupper Lake, and the roles that her ancestors played in the development and politics of the area.

Suzanne was a champion for her sisters and nieces, often providing encouragement and financial support to help us achieve our dreams.  She was the CFO of “The Bank of Ogden” – and at times was quite busy with those duties.

Suzanne was predeceased by the love of her life, William in December of 2015, as well as her mother Patricia Moody, mother in law Elizabeth Ogden, and infant son William S.S. Ogden III.

She is survived by her father, Stanley Moody, of Will Rogers Center in Saranac Lake, as well as her siblings Sheryl Briggs of Aurora CO, Kathy (Ron) Albert of Tupper Lake, Vincent (Joyce) Moody of Tupper Lake, favorite sister Jo-Anne (Edward) Motteram of Richardson, Texas, Peggy (Ron) Holt of Rogersville, TN, William (Tina) Moody of Rensselaer Falls, NY, James Moody of Tupper Lake and Timothy Moody of Schenectady, NY, as well as 17 nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and nephews.

As the oldest child, Suzanne was responsible for many of the “Moody Rules”, including the rule that the sibling with the oldest grandchild automatically became the oldest sibling. At last count she was down to the 2nd to youngest child.

A reception for local friends and family will be held Saturday March 12, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1720 Rosemeade Circle, Carrollton, TX  75007.

A memorial service will be scheduled for July 2016 in Tupper Lake, NY where her ashes and those of her beloved husband will be scattered in the Adirondack Forest Preserve.

“Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.”
