Margaret Lesley (Johnstone) Hanson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on February 29th, 2016, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 68.
Maggie is survived by her husband, Perry Hanson, her daughters, Brooke McGough and Claire Hanson, her grandchildren, Jordan, Elijah and Juliet McGough, and her siblings Albert Johnstone and Anne (Johnstone) Wyer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roisin Cooper Johnstone of Rathdrum, Wicklow, Ireland and Albert Johnstone of Pudsey, Yorkshire, England.
Maggie was born on October 2nd, 1947 in Pudsey, Yorkshire. She graduated as an SRN from the York Teaching Hospital NHS in 1965. After moving to the United States in 1970, she met Perry (an electrical engineer for Texas Instruments) and they married in 1972 in Dallas.
Maggie continued her career in nursing. She also liked to volunteer with the Dallas Heritage Society and was the chairman of Old City Park’s annual Candlelight celebration in 1989. She was an active member in the local prayer group, Our Lady’s Altar Society, and choir at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She spent the majority of her career in hospice health care advancing to Regional Vice President, Clinical Affairs. She retired in 2011 but continued to work part time. She loved her role as Gran Maggie and spoiled her three grandchildren.
She was loved by many and touched many lives. The number of visitors during her brief 4 month illness was testament to her impact on others. She will be greatly missed.
